If you’re looking for a budget-friendly car — whether to use as your main vehicle, a second car for your family, or even a first car for a teen driver — consider a subcompact car or hatchback. Subcompacts are easy to maneuver, super fuel-efficient, and the most affordable cars you can get when you buy used.
KBB.com has released its list of the 10 Best Used Subcompact Cars Under $10,000, and the 2016 Chevy Sonic placed high on the list. KBB noted the availability of different engine options and the technology on the Chevy Sonic that make it a great choice for drivers in search of a small car.
There is a lot to choose from when you buy a used Chevy Sonic. Besides the two engines, which include the base 1.8-liter four-cylinder and an available 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, the 2016 Sonic comes in four trim levels with exciting amenities at every trim.
The base LS trim, for example, delivers convenience with keyless entry, while the LT comes with a 7-inch touch screen. The LTZ trim gets you heated front seats, a feature you might not expect on a small, affordable car. And the highest trim, the RS, adds leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel for a luxurious touch.

A car is a big investment and unexpected repairs can have a devastating impact on your family’s finances if you aren’t prepared. Luckily for you, there are a number of ways you can extend the life of your vehicle. Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet has compiled a few tips to help your car last longer below.
Follow the Recommended Maintenance Schedule: Manufacturers don’t come up with recommended maintenance schedules for fun. These timelines for service appointments like tire rotations, oil changes, and fluid top-offs are important to keeping your car in the best shape possible. Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet’s service department is happy to help with any needed maintenance.
Stay Genuine: It might seem like an easy way to save a few dollars by opting for aftermarket parts or choosing to use a mom-and-pop mechanic, but it could cost you in the long run. Certified General Motors mechanics — like the ones at Bruce Lowrie Chevy — only use OEM parts and manufacturer-approved repair techniques to keep your car running smoothly.
Be a Clean Freak: It might sound trivial, but you should clean your car because it’s a vital part of keeping it in working order. Make sure you wash your vehicle’s undercarriage to help prevent rust and avoid the costly problems that rust brings.
The 2021 Editor’s Choice list of best new vehicles from Car and Driver named four Chevy vehicles, including the spacious Suburban SUV, the powerful Tahoe SUV, the stylish Camaro ZL1 sports car, and the classic Chevy Corvette muscle car.
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe and the 2021 Suburban are both big family SUVs, and Car and Driver cited both as top picks in the large SUV category. Car and Driver was impressed with the Tahoe’s towing capacity, up to 8,400 pounds, as well as its quiet cabin.
The Tahoe is equipped with a ton of smart features parents will love, like the available Power Sliding Center Console for extra storage, and a Rear Seat Media System that keeps your kids entertained no matter how long the journey.
The massive size of the Suburban, particularly its 144.7 cubic feet of cargo space, is its most standout feature, but Car and Driver also noted its agile performance that’s comparable to smaller SUVs. The Suburban offers a V8 engine with 420 horsepower that lets it easily carry your cargo.
If you’re worried about driving such a big vehicle, the Suburban offers up to nine available camera views, so you can see directly in front, behind, and even overhead. Car and Driver isn’t the only publication to recognize the 2021 Suburban, either: U.S. News & World Report named it the Best Large SUV for Families.

This should be obvious, but it’s still important to keep in mind. The slower you drive, the more time you have to stop if a child walking to school or on a bike appears in front of you suddenly.
2. Obey crosswalk rules
When you drive through a crosswalk, always listen to the crossing guard, obey flashing lights that tell you to yield to pedestrians, and stay completely out of the crosswalk until it’s clear. The front of your car shouldn’t be in the crosswalk, or you could force children walking to go around your car and into the street.
3. Drop off safely
You should always drop off your kids on the side of the road the school is on so that they don’t have to cross the street. Also, don’t double park in drop-off lines, as it blocks the sightline of other drivers and pedestrians.
4. Carpool if you can
Carpooling is a great way to reduce the number of cars going to and from school, which makes it safer for everyone. Try to get a group of parents together who can take several kids one or two days a week. This has the added bonus of freeing up some of your mornings, too.
U.S. News & World Report’s list of the “12 Most Comfortable SUVs of 2021” included two Chevrolet vehicles, affirming the automaker’s dedication towards building family-friendly vehicles that emphasize a welcoming, cozy, and convenient interior.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban
This full-size SUV offers up to 144.7 cubic feet of cargo space. But its ample room wasn’t the only thing attracting it to the judges at U.S. News. Soft-touch surfaces complete with metal accents give the SUV a modern yet comfortable atmosphere. Meanwhile, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and an available 4G LTE® Wi-Fi Hotspot help keep everyone entertained on long trips.
2021 Chevrolet Traverse
The 2021 Traverse is a mid-size SUV that impressed the judges with its spacious seats across all three rows and its best-in-class cargo space, which is up to 98.2 cubic feet. The Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds and still achieves 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, ensuring that you and your family won’t be making constant stops to refuel.* The hidden storage within the 2021 Traverse reduces clutter and adds convenience while the available hands-free power liftgate makes it easier than ever for busy parents to load and unload the cargo area.
Reading a good book can help pass the time when you’re a passenger on a road trip. But it’s common for some people to get a headache or feel nauseous when doing so. Here are some tips for reading during road trips so you can enjoy literary adventures while minimizing symptoms of carsickness.
Pack some nausea medicine
Consider taking Dramamine® to minimize feelings of nausea when reading in the car. If headaches are a more common symptom for you, pack some ibuprofen.
Take advantage of audiobooks
Bring some earbuds and listen to an audiobook during your travels. Many libraries have apps that let you rent out audiobooks and listen to them for free. Though, you can also go with paid audiobook subscriptions like Audible or Audiobooks.com if you prefer a wider selection of titles to choose from.
Adjust your sitting position
Sometimes, altering how you sit while you read can go a long way in reducing motion sickness. If your seat allows, tilt it back a bit more than usual so you can recline while you read.
Read at rest stops
If none of these strategies work, and you really can’t get into audiobooks, try reading at rest stops. That way, you can still dive into your favorite story and avoid getting carsick.
Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet wishes you and your family a summer filled with great books, good times, and fun travels. Remember to bring your vehicle in for service before your next getaway to ensure that it’s roadworthy.
Here at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet, the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe are two of our best-selling vehicles. What our customers may not realize is just how quickly the “RST” models of these vehicles are driven off the lot after arriving.
By comparison, the average time that a new vehicle spends on a dealership lot is about 60 days. The Tahoe RST and Suburban RST manage to sell out much faster than that.
So, what makes the RST trims of both vehicles so desirable? With exclusive features like a monochromatic Black grille with Black Ice accents and 22-inch bright machined high-gloss Black-painted aluminum wheels, these models give both the Suburban and Tahoe a sleek and streamlined look.
Others versions of the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe have also managed to sell very well. During the fourth quarter of last year, Chevrolet sold 28,698 units of the Tahoe, a sales increase of 36.1 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2019. The Suburban also saw a sales increase of 32.56 percent for a total of 13,577 units sold in 2020’s fourth quarter.
If you want a Chevrolet Tahoe RST or Suburban RST, we suggest you stop by Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet and pick up one of your own before they sell out.
If you need a heavy-duty truck, you deserve something that you can depend on to help make your work easier. Recently, the Chevrolet Silverado HD was ranked the most dependable truck in the Large Heavy Duty pickup segment as part of the J.D. Power 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study.
To name the winners in this study, J.D. Power surveyed owners of three-year-old vehicles and asked them to report any defects or problems that they may have noticed since their purchase. J.D. Power asked about more than 177 various problems, including technology issues and mechanical malfunctions.
While many newer vehicles are having fewer and fewer mechanical issues with features like the engine, brakes, and transmission, the Chevrolet Silverado HD earned its top marks from its high-performing technology. The Silverado HD comes well-equipped with cutting-edge tech and is available with advanced trailering and safety features.
This J.D. Power award applies to three-year-old models; however, we’re sure that you can expect the same level of dependability from new models like the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD. This truck has a maximum available towing capacity of 36,000 pounds. It also boasts some innovative technology, including 15 available camera views and an available Advanced Trailering System that allows you to create multiple trailer profiles and run through a pre-departure checklist.
Chevrolet’s impeccable slate of powerful pickups is unparalleled by any competitor in the industry, and many publications are taking notice. The manufacturer’s entire lineup of trucks was recently honored by one of the most trusted names in automotive journalism.
U.S. News & World Report, a highly recognized resource for those researching new and used vehicles, recently compiled a list of the top diesel trucks of the year. In an unsurprising move, Chevy’s 2021 Silverado 1500, Colorado, and Silverado HD all landed a spot on the outlet’s list of “The 11 Best Diesel Pickup Trucks of 2021.”
The Silverado family of pickups is no stranger to accolades, and its array of diesel engine options made it a perfect candidate for recognition on U.S. News & World Report’s list. The Silverado 1500’s Duramax® diesel powertrain is brawny enough to produce 460 lb-ft of torque, while its tougher HD sibling comes with a 6.6-liter Turbo-Diesel V8 that delivers a best-in-class towing capacity of 36,000 pounds.
Chevy’s light-duty pickup option, the 2021 Colorado, is certainly no slouch. When equipped with the 2.8-liter diesel engine, the Colorado has an output of 181 horsepower and reaches its highest towing capacity.

Both the Midnight Edition and the Sport Package have been in high demand on models currently offered with these customizations. Roughly 20 percent of all Chevy Trax crossovers that are sold have one of the two options. Since customers seem to appreciate the choices, Chevy is making both available for the popular, three-row Traverse SUV.
Drivers can opt for the Midnight Edition on Traverse LS and LT trims. The package includes black exterior accents like black wheels, roof rails, and badging, plus a Black Ice grille. This is on top of the sleek and dark color palette of the Mosaic Black Metallic Traverse. The LS and LT trim levels are also available with the Sport Package, which shares the same black accents as the Midnight Edition, but comes in a number of exterior colors.
RS trims have also proven to be popular among shoppers buying crossovers and SUVs. Chevy has sold 140,000 RS models since the trim debuted in 2018, many of them Trailblazer and Blazer crossovers. Because of its popularity, the 2022 Equinox will have an RS trim option, as well.
