Chevy Corvette Auction Raises $3.6 Million for Operation Homefront

2022 Corvette C8 | Fort Worth, TX

While Chevrolet has a reputation for its American-made cars, it’s also known for giving back to those who help make America the great nation that it is today. To this end, it recently auctioned off the first retail 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition at Barrett-Jackson.

Proceeds from the sale of this Corvette went directly to Operation Homefront, a nonprofit that supports American military families. This organization strengthens and assists those that serve our country in a variety of ways. This includes connecting wounded vets with rent-free transitional housing to helping military families in need pay for housing, utilities, and food.

President and CEO of Operation Homefront expressed gratitude for the $3.6M donation. “The proceeds […] will go a long way to helping us help our military families overcome their financial hardships and have the opportunity to thrive in the communities […] they’ve worked so hard to protect.”

This recent auction is just the latest way that Chevrolet is continuing its legacy of sponsoring Operation Homefront. In the past, the automaker has supported the organization financially and donated seven Silverado trucks to the nonprofit.

3 Ways to Personalize Your Used Car

3 Ways to Personalize Your Used Car | Fort Worth, TX

We spend a lot of time in our cars, which is why many people feel like their cars are an extension of their personality. When you buy a used car, it may not truly feel like it’s yours. But you can easily create a customized driving experience thanks to many aftermarket parts and accessories. Here are three easy ways you can personalize your used car.

1. Seat covers

If you find a great deal on a used vehicle but you don’t love the upholstery, you can easily update it with a set of seat covers. Choose the style and material you prefer.

2. Floor mats

Another simple upgrade to any used car is a new set of floor mats. If the mats in your used car are worn out, a new set can easily refresh the interior. You can also consider a set of all-weather floor mats that fit snugly into the footwells to protect your carpeting from any dirt and debris that comes in on your shoes.

3. Fragrances

Everyone loves that new-car smell. You can get that scent or any other smell you love in an air freshener. Instead of a basic tree hanging from your mirror, consider an air diffuser that uses essential oils for more natural scents.

KBB.com Names Chevy Sonic One of the Best Used Subcompact Cars

Chevrolet Sonic | Ft Worth, TX

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly car — whether to use as your main vehicle, a second car for your family, or even a first car for a teen driver — consider a subcompact car or hatchback. Subcompacts are easy to maneuver, super fuel-efficient, and the most affordable cars you can get when you buy used.

KBB.com has released its list of the 10 Best Used Subcompact Cars Under $10,000, and the 2016 Chevy Sonic placed high on the list. KBB noted the availability of different engine options and the technology on the Chevy Sonic that make it a great choice for drivers in search of a small car.

There is a lot to choose from when you buy a used Chevy Sonic. Besides the two engines, which include the base 1.8-liter four-cylinder and an available 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, the 2016 Sonic comes in four trim levels with exciting amenities at every trim.

The base LS trim, for example, delivers convenience with keyless entry, while the LT comes with a 7-inch touch screen. The LTZ trim gets you heated front seats, a feature you might not expect on a small, affordable car. And the highest trim, the RS, adds leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel for a luxurious touch.

Tips for Helping Your Car Last Longer

Service | Ft Worth, TX

A car is a big investment and unexpected repairs can have a devastating impact on your family’s finances if you aren’t prepared. Luckily for you, there are a number of ways you can extend the life of your vehicle. Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet has compiled a few tips to help your car last longer below.

  • Follow the Recommended Maintenance Schedule: Manufacturers don’t come up with recommended maintenance schedules for fun. These timelines for service appointments like tire rotations, oil changes, and fluid top-offs are important to keeping your car in the best shape possible. Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet’s service department is happy to help with any needed maintenance.
  • Stay Genuine: It might seem like an easy way to save a few dollars by opting for aftermarket parts or choosing to use a mom-and-pop mechanic, but it could cost you in the long run. Certified General Motors mechanics — like the ones at Bruce Lowrie Chevy — only use OEM parts and manufacturer-approved repair techniques to keep your car running smoothly.
  • Be a Clean Freak: It might sound trivial, but you should clean your car because it’s a vital part of keeping it in working order. Make sure you wash your vehicle’s undercarriage to help prevent rust and avoid the costly problems that rust brings.

If you have any other maintenance questions, don’t hesitate to contact the Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet service department.

4 Chevy Cars Make the 2021 Car and Driver Editor’s Choice List

Chevrolet Interior | Ft Worth, TX

The 2021 Editor’s Choice list of best new vehicles from Car and Driver named four Chevy vehicles, including the spacious Suburban SUV, the powerful Tahoe SUV, the stylish Camaro ZL1 sports car, and the classic Chevy Corvette muscle car.

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe and the 2021 Suburban are both big family SUVs, and Car and Driver cited both as top picks in the large SUV category. Car and Driver was impressed with the Tahoe’s towing capacity, up to 8,400 pounds, as well as its quiet cabin.

The Tahoe is equipped with a ton of smart features parents will love, like the available Power Sliding Center Console for extra storage, and a Rear Seat Media System that keeps your kids entertained no matter how long the journey.

The massive size of the Suburban, particularly its 144.7 cubic feet of cargo space, is its most standout feature, but Car and Driver also noted its agile performance that’s comparable to smaller SUVs. The Suburban offers a V8 engine with 420 horsepower that lets it easily carry your cargo.

If you’re worried about driving such a big vehicle, the Suburban offers up to nine available camera views, so you can see directly in front, behind, and even overhead. Car and Driver isn’t the only publication to recognize the 2021 Suburban, either: U.S. News & World Report named it the Best Large SUV for Families.

Back-to-School Driving Safety Tips in Fort Worth, TX

School Safety Driving | Fort Worth, TX

Summer vacation is almost over, which means parents and teen drivers in our area will be back in crowded school parking lots and drop-off lines every morning and afternoon. Here are some back-to-school driving tips from our team at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet to stay safe this fall.

1. Go slow and be cautious

This should be obvious, but it’s still important to keep in mind. The slower you drive, the more time you have to stop if a child walking to school or on a bike appears in front of you suddenly.

2. Obey crosswalk rules

When you drive through a crosswalk, always listen to the crossing guard, obey flashing lights that tell you to yield to pedestrians, and stay completely out of the crosswalk until it’s clear. The front of your car shouldn’t be in the crosswalk, or you could force children walking to go around your car and into the street.

3. Drop off safely

You should always drop off your kids on the side of the road the school is on so that they don’t have to cross the street. Also, don’t double park in drop-off lines, as it blocks the sightline of other drivers and pedestrians.

4. Carpool if you can

Carpooling is a great way to reduce the number of cars going to and from school, which makes it safer for everyone. Try to get a group of parents together who can take several kids one or two days a week. This has the added bonus of freeing up some of your mornings, too.
